One of the best Malaysian places in town smack bang in the middle of Chinatown. These guys have been around a long time and have stamped their ground on what they do best which are traditional and authentic Malaysian dishes.

These guys are popular not only for their Malaysian offerings but they are also one of the few places that open till quite late in town alongside with Hou Mei.

The menu is simple and has an offering of Malaysian dishes such as curry laksas, Assam laksas and Golden Chicken.

For me the best dish is the Golden Sands Soft Shell Crab, the salted egg yolk grinded and fried onto the crab which simply creates an irresistible flavour you can't have enough of, a must try for the seafood lovers.

I also recommend the Curry Laksa or the Assam Laksa, but beware these are not the faint hearted and do really contain a kick of spice and flavour!

For drinks, do not hesitate to try the Malaysian coffee but most of the all the teh tarik is my favourite drink, a silky smooth tea that gives off the best texture a tea could bring.

A regular backup and a safe card in my book!

Very popular Malaysian/Chinese cafe in the heart of the Chinese quarter.

Reasonable prices - less than £8 for a huge main dish.

I wasn't desperately impressed by the food. My chicken and sweetcorn soup was hot and glutinous, just fine. And pork char siu was nice and sweet if a little dry - could've done with more sticky sauce.

Next time, I'd go for a laksa, as recommended by another Yelper.

The mango and grapefruit sago was refreshing and delightful, though very very sweet.

Service was a bit slapdash, but that's often the way in these casual cafes. Perfectly good, just not outstanding. I'd say next door's Look In is superior.

    What: Malaysian for Dinner

    Where: China Town, Birmingham, UK

The Dish: Tea Tarik!! Okay so not a dish but definitely the best drink I have ever had!

    Value: £20pp

Food Review: To eat: Prawn Toast, Prawn Balls, Sweet and Sour King Prawn with Egg fried Rice, Fish with Ginger and Spring Onion.

    To drink: Tea Tarik

So first to come was the drinks, a couple of Hot Tea Tariks to warm up on a rather cold Friday evening. For those not in the know, Tea Tarik is tea made with sweetened condensed milk. Fresh milk was not used in Malaysia as it was not available so sweetened condensed milk was the healthiest option available.

Whatever the reason, once you've had a taste of this, you will be wondering why it took you so long to try it.

Next the starters, standard East Asia, prawn toast and prawn balls. The prawn toast were better than the prawn balls were both of mediocre standard and seem to have a frozen product standard rather than restaurant standard.

Sober Status: Alcohol is served on site

When I next visit I would have:  Lobster

    Halal: No

    Internal and External Review:
The interior has been revamped in order to serve more people, but it provides a basic asian style, random furniture layout! Bit confusing, (3 people seated on a large 8 people dining table?! ), and random sections to its layout with no flow.
The exterior is basic and could do with showcasing what is inside a bit more.

Sum up: Food is served quickly, but nothing to write home about

Amazing food. Very authentic. We could not decide... we just took something we never heard about. It was a blast! Try the selfmade tofu - your tofu fears will disappear! Wow such good chefs!

Worst place to come to! Absolutely appalled by the service. We waited to have our order taken and that took a while. Once we ordered, it took 40 minutes and our food never came. The server was unapologetic and kept serving the other tables whilst just tell by us that they are busy. We finally left after all the long wait and lack of kind service. Worst experience ever
